A story in the UK Mail about a forthcoming profile on Brad Pitt in W magazine says the celeb “stands by his comments to say that he and Jolie would not want to marry until the ban on gay marriages is lifted.”
‘People who are against gay marriage do not understand the very freedoms that they themselves are enjoying,’ he argues.
‘What if someone said, “Sorry, no Christianity here? No Judaism. Certainly no Mormons.”
‘No one would stand for that, and I wouldn’t allow anyone to say that either. I’d fight them in the same way.’
As a tactic to convince people that gays should enjoy civil marriage equality, I’m not sure celebrities withholding nuptials is terribly persuasive. But we appreciate the symbolic gesture all the same Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Here’s to your happiness.
