Anne Hathaway thinks gays should get to be “bridezillas” too

Anne Hathaway plugs civil marriage equality in an interview about her new wedding comedy, Bride Wars:

Asked whether too much emphasis is placed on young women getting married, Hathaway hasn’t an answer.

“To be perfectly honest, I don’t know,” says Hathaway who is 27 and single.

“Personally, I don’t feel any pressure to get married. I don’t feel it from my family, I don’t feel it from my friends, and I don’t feel it from within, so I don’t know how to answer that question.

“But I’m not everyone,” she adds. “I think there is something to be said about living the happiest life possible, but the only way you can live a happy life, specific to yourself, is if you are yourself. And if you’re the sort of person that never wants to get married - never get married. Who cares? And if you’re the sort of person that really loves the idea of being committed to someone . . . go for it.”

Then, Hathaway adds a not-so-oblique statement in favour of gay marriage.

“The important thing to note is, more than whether or not women feel pressure to get married, I think we need to work on making it possible for everyone to get married.”
